Little Toes® FAQ Sections
What is the difference between a bamboo diaper and a natural diaper?

Not all "natural" diapers are equal. Diapers made from bamboo fibers offer a suite of benefits that cotton-based natural diapers simply cannot match:

  • Absorbency: Bamboo is 70% more absorbent than cotton, actively wicking moisture away from your baby's skin for lasting dryness.
  • Thermal regulation: Bamboo's natural breathability circulates fresh air, keeping skin dry and comfortable in any temperature whether it's a Florida summer or a winter night.
  • Antibacterial by nature: Bamboo contains "bamboo kun," a naturally occurring bio-agent with inherent antibacterial and deodorizing properties no additives needed.
  • Chemical-free softness: Bamboo fibers are organically smooth and round. No chemical treatments are required to achieve softness the fiber is hypoallergenic by design.
  • Eco-superior growth: Bamboo grows up to 1.5 inches per hour, requires no harmful fertilizers or pesticides, and generates up to 30% more oxygen than comparable plants.
Why is bamboo considered naturally hypoallergenic?

Bamboo fibers are naturally smooth and round at the microscopic level unlike synthetic or even cotton fibers, which can have sharp spurs that irritate sensitive skin. Because bamboo grows rapidly without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and requires no harsh chemical treatment to achieve softness, the resulting fiber is gentle enough for the most delicate newborn skin.

Little Toes bamboo diapers are dermatologist-tested, endorsed by Dr. Ira Finegold, MD (allergist/immunologist, Chief of Allergy at Mount Sinai West), and earned Dermatest® Excellent 2025 certification. They're trusted for babies with eczema, sensitive skin, and chemical sensitivities.

How does bamboo compare to other plant-based diaper materials like corn or sugarcane?

Corn and sugarcane-based plant materials can feel stiff or rough against skin. Bamboo fiber, by contrast, is often compared to cashmere in its softness. Additionally:

  • Bamboo's "bamboo kun" provides natural antibacterial protection absent in most other plant-based materials
  • Bamboo absorbs up to 3× its weight in liquid outperforming most alternative plant fibers
  • Bamboo is one of Earth's fastest-growing plants, requiring no replanting and far less land than cotton
  • Bamboo's thermal regulation keeps baby's skin comfortable across all temperatures an advantage corn or sugarcane fibers don't offer

Note: Little Toes swim diapers are natural eco-certified, not plant-based. This distinction reflects the specific materials used in each product line.

How absorbent are Little Toes bamboo diapers compared to other brands?

Little Toes diapers were engineered for both day and night use, which demanded the highest possible absorbency. Independent lab testing spanning premium bamboo diapers and conventional diapers rated Little Toes the #1 diaper in absorbent capacity.

Under 9 seconds liquid absorption into core  |  Up to 12 hours leak protection

Our patented maximum absorbency technology pairs Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) wood pulp with high-performance Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP), while the 100% organic bamboo liner wicks moisture away from the skin instantly.

Do Little Toes diapers have a wetness indicator?

Yes. Little Toes diapers feature a wetness indicator that changes from yellow to green so you always know when it's time for a change. The indicator is located on the outer PE layer of the diaper and is never in contact with your baby's skin completely safe and parent-tested for peace of mind.

How does the fit work? Will it leak?

Little Toes diapers feature a flexible 360° waistband for a snug, comfortable fit without constriction, plus a 3M™ elastic waistband and triple-stretchable fastener for the perfect seal. The side "Avery" Velcro magic tape adds elasticity for active babies. Leak guard legs and our super absorbent core work together to contain liquid before it escapes day or night.

What chemicals are NOT in Little Toes diapers?

Little Toes diapers are formulated with a strict "never ever" list. They are completely free from:

  • Chlorine & chlorine derivatives (we use TCF pulp only)
  • Phthalates, parabens & alcohol
  • Latex & fragrances / perfumes
  • Lotions & preservatives
  • VOC-producing inks (all patterns use water-based inks)
  • Toxic dyes or harsh chemical treatments of any kind

Little Toes holds OEKO-TEX®, OK Biobased, Dermatest® Excellent 2025, Group Ecocert, GMP, and Vegan/Cruelty-Free certifications with Mom's Choice Gold recognition.

What is the difference between ECF and TCF pulp, and why does it matter?

The wood pulp inside diapers is bleached to improve absorbency. There are two bleaching methods used in the industry:

Feature ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) ✓ Little Toes
Bleaching agent Chlorine dioxide (a chlorine derivative) Oxygen, peroxide, or ozone
Chlorine exposure Yes indirect None whatsoever
Safety level Moderate — widely used to reduce cost Safest method available today
Environmental impact Higher chlorine byproduct risk Minimal clean chemistry
Used by Little Toes? Never Always

Little Toes uses exclusively TCF pulp because your baby's most sensitive areas deserve nothing less than the cleanest science available.

What type of ink is used on the diaper patterns?

Little Toes was the first bamboo diaper brand to use gender-neutral prints made with non-toxic, water-based inks. Unlike conventional inks, water-based inks produce zero VOCs (volatile organic compounds) during production and processing making them completely safe for both your baby and the environment. All patterns on our diapers, swim diapers, and changing pads use this formulation.

Are Little Toes diapers biodegradable?

Yes. Approximately 67% of every Little Toes diaper is made from biodegradable materials the highest proportion safely achievable in a high-performance diaper today. The top and back sheets are crafted from 100% biodegradable bamboo fiber.

Unlike conventional diapers that linger in landfills for up to 550 years, Little Toes top and back sheets and paper pulp biodegrade in 147 days or less when exposed to light. We continue to push the boundaries of what's possible because if a fully biodegradable diaper can be made safely, we will make it.

What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable?

Biodegradable means a material can be broken down by bacteria or other living organisms, preventing it from creating long-term pollution. Composting is an active process of converting organic matter into a soil conditioner.

To compost a diaper, you must first remove all solid waste which means composting is only practical for wet-only diapers and requires a facility equipped to handle the material safely. For diapers with solid waste, proper disposal is always recommended. This is why biodegradability remains the more practical and impactful goal for everyday diapering.

Are Little Toes diapers compostable?

For sanitary and safety reasons, we recommend disposing of diapers in the trash unless you have access to a professional composting service equipped to handle them. The good news: with 147-day-or-less biodegradation, the impact of Little Toes diapers on landfills is dramatically lower than conventional alternatives.

Is the diaper packaging recyclable?

Our diaper bags use a d2w biodegradable technology that accelerates the natural oxidation process, breaking down the plastic into a form that can be bio-assimilated by bacteria and fungi on land or at sea. They contain no toxic residues and no microplastics, and are suitable for food contact per FDA & EU guidelines. The bags are waterproof, lightweight, and strongkeeping your diapers sanitary from manufacture to your door.

Where is the bamboo sourced and where are the diapers made?

Little Toes bamboo is responsibly sourced from FSC®-certified forests in China, where bamboo grows naturally and abundantly without depleting ecosystems or wildlife habitats. All manufacturing takes place in plants certified as socially responsible facilities, meeting the highest international standards for worker welfare and environmental stewardship.

Little Toes products are distributed by Products On The Go LLC, a Florida-based certified woman-owned small business founded by Dr. Sharon, Ph.D. headquartered in Delray Beach, FL.

What are Little Toes swim diapers made from?

Little Toes swim diapers are crafted from a premium spun-bond non-woven material the same medical-grade fabric used in face masks and surgical gowns prized for its softness, breathability, and antibacterial properties. The material won't bulk up in water, maintaining a comfortable fit throughout your baby's swim time.

All patterns are printed with water-based inks (zero VOCs), and the waistband and leg leak guards are made from spandex silk for a gentle, flexible hold.

What makes Little Toes swim diapers different from other brands?

Little Toes swim diapers are the only disposable swim diaper completely free of Paba, Paraben, Phthalates, alcohol, latex, perfumes, and other harsh chemicals. Key design advantages include:

  • Double locking barrier and rounder bottom design for more coverage around the legs better containing accidents before they enter the water
  • Flexible 360° waistband for full movement freedom in the water without constriction
  • Easy tear-away sides and pull-up/pull-off style for effortless poolside changes
  • Hypoallergenic and completely natural safe for the most sensitive baby skin
Do Little Toes wipes contain the preservative MI (methylisothiazolinone)?

Absolutely not. Our gentle, hypoallergenic baby wipes formula is made with 99% purified water and does not contain Methylisothiazolinone (MI) a preservative linked to allergic skin reactions and contact dermatitis.

Instead, we use natural food-grade preservatives Citric Acid and Sodium Citrate, which are safe, effective, and gentle enough for newborn skin. Every wipe is formulated with the same clinical rigor that Dr. Sharon, Ph.D. applied to every Little Toes product from day one.
